The software has some other customization options for the containers. That will add the folder container to the desktop, and you can open the shortcuts it includes from there. Then click Place, and select one of your desktop shortcut folders. Click the + button at the bottom right to make a new container. This will open the window as shown in the screenshot below. To add your own group containers to the desktop, click the Nimi Places icon in the system tray. You can unlock them the same way, by right-clicking the container and selecting Unlock. To avoid this, just right click on a container and click Lock. However, there is a tendency for you to drag them around the screen by accident. You can also drag the containers to re-position them on the desktop. You can copy and paste desktop shortcuts into those boxes by right-clicking an icon and selecting “Copy.” Then right-click inside one of the container boxes and click “Paste” to add the copied shortcut to it. Good Luck in diving into the topic and learning more.Organizing the Desktop Icons With Folders I only toyed with it - and never really used it. But i cant even recall what the features name is. KdE has an overlooked feature where each virtual desktop can have its own layout of icons and even not be a normal desktop. So more like 'smart' dynamic panels.Īnd this is me rambling on a bit in my old age. Windowmaker - had 'icons' but they were not actually files in a directory setup. This was back when 'desktop widgets' were the fun cool thing. I seem to recall using other programs to get icons on the desktop with other window managers such as fluxbox and so forth. Years ago - i used 'rox filer' and the 'rox desktop' which used the rox filer as the desktop manager. I am not sure how much this applies to mondern DE's - Gnome for example actually moved away from the file manager (nautilus) managing the desktop icons - and they are now managed by a gnome extension. In the past (years ago) the 'desktop' was a special file manager window that was running on the lowest layer (right above the X servers root window) that could show icons and other things.
